NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – A robbery ended in a hail of gunfire early Saturday morning.

According to MDPD Det. Alvaro Zabaleta, two armed men attempted to rob a 25-year-old man shortly after 5 a.m. The man attempted to fight off his attackers, which ended after one of the suspects fired several shots, Zabaleta said.

One of those shots struck the man’s upper body, Zabaleta said. The men then took his wallet and fled.

Despite just being shot, the man was able to drive to the area of NW 95 Street and NW 2 Avenue, where he called police.

The man was transported to Ryder Trauma Center, where he is in surgery, Zabaleta said.

It is unclear right now where the attempted robbery and shooting happened.

Investigators said they will try to gather more information once the man is out of surgery.
