Child Critical After Plunging 7 Stories From Oakland Park Condo

OAKLAND PARK (CBS4) - A 5-year-old girl is in critical condition after Broward Sheriff's Office deputies say she fell seven stories out of the window of her apartment.

BSO spokesperson Mike Jachles told CBS4's Carey Codd that there were two adults and three children in the condo Friday night when the girl was put down for bed.

Later on, authorities say, the girl's 8-year-old sibling went into the bedroom to check on the girl and found her walking along the windowsill. The girl lost her balance and fell to the ground below, landing on a patch of grass.

The girl's mother rushed downstairs while calling 911. The girl and her mother were taken to the hospital by two women who were bystanders outside.

Jachles said the girl suffered multiple traumatic injuries.

"It's a good thing that the child is alive. The child is in critical condition. Again, could've been a different outcome," said Jachles. "We're hoping that this child recovers."
