Fins Sign Vaughn Martin For D-Line Help

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins added some bulk to its defensive line Thursday when it signed defensive lineman Vaughn Martin, formerly of the San Diego Chargers, to a two-year contract.

Martin was on a plane to leave for a visit to Seattle when his agent phoned him to tell him the Dolphins had made an acceptable offer, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.

The former Charger played primarily as a 3-4 defensive end in San Diego's defensive scheme. He started 12 games last year making 19 tackles and one sack. In addition, he's just 26 years old and fits into Miami's youth movement across the roster.

The Fins return every starter along the defensive line including Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake, defensive tackles Paul Soliai and Randy Starks, and defensive end/tackle Jared Odrick. The Fins would like more pass rush help opposite Wake, but won't break the bank for it.
