Family Asks For Helping In Finding Brickell Hit & Run Driver

MIAMI (CBS4) – A family is asking for the public's help in finding a hit and run driver who killed their loved one.

"We want everybody to know what we're going through. And we want help in identifying the person who did this," said Adriana Mares as she fought back tears.

Her sister Anna was struck on Brickell Bay Drive near the Four Ambassadors on Friday night and left to die.

"They told me that she was dragged or flew over 65 feet of distance. I mean that's not something that you can ignore. And just look behind your mirror and see a person lying on the floor," said Mares.

Mares said she and her sister had just finished dinner and Anna was walking back to her car when she was hit. A passerby found her in the street.

"The person who called us, using my sisters phone, had given some information, but the person kept driving. They went to her rescue rather than following the car that hit her," said Mares.

Mares said she got to the hospital as the ambulance pulled in. Mares said her sister had multiple fractures and a brain hemorrhage.

"She was 49. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. She wanted to live life as easy as possible," said Mares. "She was unbelievable. There was nothing she wouldn't do for other people."

Police said they have little to go on except it was a dark colored small car.

"I you do recall an incident where you saw a vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed, its important that you call police of Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers," said Miami police spokeswoman Officer Kenia Reyes.

Anyone with information can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
