LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – An investigation is underway after a woman's body was pulled a car which had plunged into a Lauderhill canal.

Around 8 a.m., a passerby noticed the front of a car sticking out of a canal in the 4800 block of N University Drive, according to police spokesman Lieutenant Gregory Solowsky.

When officers arrived they were able to determine that someone was in the dark-colored vehicle.

Lauderhill Police and Fire personnel were able to break a window and pull Ashley Farara of Sunrise out. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police canvassed the area and found out that a dark-colored vehicle was spotted "driving slowly" northbound through the adjoining parking lot at approximately 5:30 am. Investigators are attempting to determine if this is Farara's vehicle.

The investigation is continuing to determine how Farara's vehicle ended up in the canal.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Lauderhill Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit at (954) 497 4700.
