Alleged Robber Dead As Miami Man Turns Tables On Armed Suspect

MIAMI (CBS4) - One man is dead after what police are calling an attempted armed robbery in Liberty City Tuesday night.

The shooting happened at about 7:30 p.m. along NW 15 Avenue and NW 70 Street, police said.

Evidence markers were scattered near blood stains on the sidewalk as police processed the crime scene.

Investigators said a suspected robber shot his victim in the hand.

Then the victim, fearing for his life, fired back with his own handgun, striking the suspected robber multiple times, according to police.

"The robber in loses in this case," Ofc. Kenia Reyes said. "Loses his life."

The victim who was shot in the hand is expected to recover.

"The shooting be happening everyday," said a man who only wanted to be identified as Joe.

Joe works at Five Sons Food Market, just feet from where the shooting occurred.

His shop was closed Tuesday night because the entrance was blocked by crime scene tape.

"What's happening is not good. It's not good," Joe said. "But for me, I can't do anything if the police can't do anything."

Chakka Wright said she also feels helpless.

"It makes me angry, but what can we do about it? This is how we have to live," Wright said.

She said her friend recently lost a son to gun violence in the neighborhood.

In fact, homicide detectives are in the area so often, Wright knows several of them by name.

"We do, we recognize so many of them. It's just sad the crime rate is so high these days. It don't make no sense," Wright lamented.

The Miami Police Dept. recently began enforcing the curfew for teenagers. The ages of the people involved in this shooting have not been released.

Investigators said several witnesses were taken to police headquarters for questioning related to the case.

It's not known if any of them were working with the suspected robber at the time of the shooting.
