Miami Event Offers Help For Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Struggling homeowners who are at risk for foreclosure can get some from advice over the next two days on how to save their home.

U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and the U.S. Department of Treasury are hosting a "Help For Homeowners" event on Wednesday and Thursday at the James L. Knight Center on 2nd Avenue in Miami.

At the free event put on by the HOPE NOW Alliance and Making Home Affordable, homeowners will meet one-on-one with mortgage company officials and housing experts who can answer questions about principal reduction, refinancing, loan modification, short sales and other ways of avoiding foreclosure.

Representatives from many of the largest mortgage companies are scheduled to be there including Bank of America, Bayview, Chase, Citi Mortgage, GMAC Mortgage, Homeward Residential (formerly American Home Mortgage Servicing, Inc.), HSBC, Nationstar, Ocwen, OneWest, PNC, Select Portfolio Servicing, Seterus, SunTrust, US Bank and Wells Fargo.

Several local, HUD-approved non-profit counseling organizations will also be on hand including Apprisen, Centro Campresino Farm Worker Center, Consolidated Credit Counseling, Cuban American National Council and Debt Helper.

On Wednesday, the event will run from 1:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. On Thursday, help will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
