Man Sought In Deadly Hallandale Beach Burglary Attempt

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Hallandale Beach police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who inadvertently led to the death of one man during a burglary.

Around 3 a.m., Macarthur Smith, 26, heard noises in his residence at 308 NW 5th Avenue and went to check it out.

He found 29-year old Frantzy Etienne, who was armed with a six-foot stick, had broken in, according to police.

During a struggle between Smith, Etienne and two other people in the home, one of those individuals pulled a gun and fired in self-defense.

Smith, who was hit in the chest, was killed. Maria Smith, 29, was shot in the arm. She was taken to Memorial Hospital in Hollywood where she was treated and released.

After the shooting, Etienne took off on foot.

Police said Etienne is also known to frequent the cities of North Miami and Hollywood. When caught, he'll face armed burglary, aggravated battery and murder charges.
