MIAMI (CBS4) – He’s trained some of the best players in the NBA, including Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Now, the workout trainer Ed Downs in known for is available to anyone who wants to sweat.

“So why do they come to you ? CBS4’s Jim Berry asked Downs.

“Because I’m the best,” he answered without batting an eye.

The former aerospace engineer has turned his one-time hobby into a full-fledged business, and the proof is in the Heat’s red hot stars. At his South Miami gym, Downs has created tailor made training regimens for each of the Heat’s big three.

“For Wade, it’s about controlling his body more when he’s airborne,” said Downs. “For Chris Bosh, he’s playing center now, so I need his base to be stronger ”

Even the chiseled Lebron has worked with Downs, looking for an edge.

“That’s what it’s all about,” said Downs. “Jumping a little bit higher, getting to your spot a little quicker. At the highly competitive level, a little edge really matters. ”

Downs agreed to put Jim Berry through a D-Wade workout to make him a tougher tennis player.

They went through a fast pace routine to improve balance, strength, and endurance.

At the core of Downs’ approach is resistance training.

While he works with NBA, NFL and other pro athletes, Downs has broadened his routines so that kids and weekend warriors can also benefit.
