Lauderhill Shootings Four Blocks Apart Put Two In Hospital

LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – Two shootings took place within walking distance of each other Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

A 16- or 17-year-old boy was shot in the head Tuesday night on the 5200 block of NW 25th Court, according to Lt. Mike Butkus of Lauderhill Police. The teen was transported to Broward General Hospital.

According to police, the boy knows the suspect. Police continue searching for a green Nissan sedan registered in Fort Lauderdale.

In a separate incident just hours later, a man was shot outside his apartment on the 2900 block of NW 56th Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Xavier Melton, 23, was shot shortly after midnight outside the Royal Palms Apartments, police said. Melton was immediately transported to Broward Health Medical Center.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports witnesses said they heard at least five shots.

Melton's wife, Janicia, said her husband has no idea who shot him or why.

"At the hospital, all he said was 'I didn't do anything. I was standing outside and they started shooting,'" she told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The suspect in that shooting is also still at large.
