Retro Air Jordans Bring Big Crowds & Burglars
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – In the pre-dawn hours Friday, a frenzy of people stood outside Southland Mall in Cutler Bay to try and get their hands on the latest pair of Nike Air Jordans while others actually broke into a Miami Gardens shoe store to unlawfully grab the highly sought after shoes before they went on sale.
According to Miami Gardens police, burglars used a car to pull off the rear door of a Foot Locker store, located at 19833 NW 2nd Avenue in Miami Gardens.
It's not known exactly how many pairs of shoes the burglars hauled away.
All this happened while a large crowd of shoe lovers were in front of the store waiting for it to open.
Meantime, Chopper 4 flew over Southland Mall before the mall even opened and spotted a large crowd of people waiting to get inside to buy the new Air Jordan Retro 11 Breds.
Everyone there remained patient and calm and it paid off for Shameeka Johnson.
"We went from mall to mall, from Dadeland to Cutler Ridge," said Johnson who did it for her children. "It's for the kids."
Shenita Collier will also get a big smile from her son on Christmas morning.
"My son's birthday is on Christmas and that's what he wanted so that's why I waited," said Collier.
The shoes cost $185 for adults but can go for more than twice that on the secondary market.
