Accused Shoplifters In Police Involved Shooting Identified, 1 On Loose

MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) -- Miramar Police are still looking for a fourth suspect who was among a group of thieves who stole TVs from a Target store then tried to run over an officer during a traffic stop in the parking lot of a busy restaurant.

According to police, the three people taken into custody are Rubie Mosely, Eugene Foster and Nemiah Covington.

The fourth suspect, police say, is a heavyset black woman who was wearing a white dress with a blue jacket.

The incident started at the Target, located at 16901 Miramar Parkway when Foster, Covington and an unnamed female allegedly stole two flat screen TV's. Store security called police and gave a description of their car which was driven by Mosely, said police.

A Miramar officer spotted their green Toyota and pulled it over in the parking lot of a Chili's restaurant.

All of the suspects jumped out of the car. While Covington ran away, the other three suspects got back in the car and drove to the west side of the restaurant. The unnamed female suspect then jumped out of the car and ran away while the two remaining suspects sped toward an officer who was on foot searching for Covington.

Fearing for his life, he opened fire.

"He felt at that moment they were probably going to run him over and he fired multiple shots," said Rues.

The car crashed into a parked vehicle and continued moving forward until it stopped near a palm tree and the restaurant's building. There was minor damage caused by the crash to two vehicles, two signs were destroyed and some landscaping was uprooted.

Mosley and Foster were taken into custody. Covington was caught during a K-9 search.

Nobody was struck by the bullets, said police

Police said the televisions were still in the car at the crime scene.

Mosely, Foster and Covington face Grand Theft charges.

Anyone with information about the fourth suspect is urged to contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
