Marlins Reveal 2013 Spring Training Schedule

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The not-so-eagerly anticipated 2013 Miami Marlins season will begin on Sunday, February 23 when the team hosts the St. Louis Cardinals in the first spring training game of the year.

The Marlins announced their spring training schedule Friday which will include 16 home games at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter and 20 games overall. The Marlins will also play the Venezuela WBC team on March 5 in Jupiter.

Marlins pitchers and catchers will report for spring training on February 11 and hold their first on-field work out that afternoon.

Position players will take their physicals on February 15 and then the full squad will hold its first spring training practice later in the day.

The Marlins will be debuting a completely new lineup next season with the only major returning star being right fielder Giancarlo Stanton. The team blew up its roster this offseason in a major trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Marlins have taken flack for undergoing their third complete roster overhaul since 1997 during the offseason.
