Man Riding Bike Killed In Oakland Park Hit-And-Run

OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) – A man riding his bicycle was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon. The motorist drove away from the scene, in the westbound lanes of Oakland Park Boulevard near the railroad tracks along I-95.

The collision happened in the block of 1500 West Oakland Park Boulevard. A nurse who witnessed the incident stopped to help the man, but Oakland Park Fire and Rescue pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The victim was not immediately identified, and a description of the vehicle that hit him was not available.

"This is a well-traveled road and the incident was at a busy time. We're hoping that someone saw something," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Jachles.

Tyler Ashton lives near the area and isn't surprised at the accident.

"Bicyclists…especially ones who don't have lights...a lot of people don't pay attention too much when they're driving. That's sad, man. That's sad," Ashton said.

BSO is asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers anonymously at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or BSO at 954-765-4321.
