Another Section Of A1A Opens To Traffic

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – City workers are making progress in clearing a section of State Road A1A which was flooded by seawater and sand earlier this week.

Thursday one southbound lane between Northeast 20th Street and Sunrise Blvd. will be open to traffic. In this section all traffic will be routed southbound on A1A.

Northbound A1A in this same stretch remains closed as more sand removal and clean up needs to be done before it's deemed safe.

A combination of seasonal tides, high winds and the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy caused much of A1A along Ft. Lauderdale Beach to be closed for days after water surged up onto the street and into some businesses.

Area residents looking for more information on when workers are expected to complete their clean up can call (954) 828-8000.
