Poll: Romney Leads Obama By 7 Points In FL

MIAMI (CBS4) - A new poll shows Mitt Romney with a seven point lead over President Obama in Florida.  The poll by the Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald, and Tampa Bay Times shows Romney with 51% percent to Obamas 44% with a 3.5% margin of error.

What voters make of that poll here in South Florida all depends on whom you ask.

Both candidates had a presence in South Florida Thursday.  While President Obama wowed a crowd of primarily college students at the University of Miami, Mitt Romney campaigned in North Carolina but his son was here in South Florida watching the Vice Presidential debate and talking about the new poll.

"People got to see my dad for who he really is,  what he stands for last week in the debate.  That's the real reason we're seeing such a spike in the polls and we're encouraged we're excited," Craig Romney said.

Obama and Romney on the issues: Weigh in on the Presidential Forum

Luisa Sanchez, who planned to watch the debate in Doral with other Obama supporters, agreed the debate likely influenced the poll numbers, but she doesn't expect Romney's lead to hold.

"We're about a month away from the election. I think a lot of things can change and Obama will probably go over him again," said Sanchez.

She feels the President can gain ground in Florida if he performs well during the next debate.    She said Obama needs to "be as smart as we know he is and he'll be okay."

Olivia Blanco supports Romney.

"Obama with the four years he had in the White House, he didn't have one good thing to say about what he's done and that's really sad," she said.

After talking to South Floridians on both sides, most agree that Florida will play an important part in this election, and the numbers that really count will come on election day.

"Nobody knows until that day comes," said Blanco.
