Fla. Police Captain Guilty Of Selling Cocaine, Oxycodone

MIAMI (AP) — A South Florida police captain is facing prison time after pleading guilty to being part of a ring that distributed drugs such as cocaine and oxycodone.

Sentencing is set for December for 44-year-old Arthur Balom of the Opa-Locka police force. Balom faces a maximum of 40 years behind bars.

Authorities say Balom was part of a drug trafficking organization known as the "The Back Blues" that operated out of an apartment complex. They say Balom provided law enforcement information to members of the ring and even gave some of them bulletproof vests.

Balom was one of eight people charged in the case. The others have either pleaded guilty or are awaiting trial in Miami federal court.
