Tropical Storm Oscar Expected To Die Off Friday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Tropical Storm Oscar is slowly moving northeastward in the eastern Atlantic.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, the center of Oscar was about 1170 miles west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands.

Maximum sustained winds were 45 mph with higher gusts.

The system was moving toward the northeast at 12 mph.  The National Hurricane Center forecast calls for the storm to speed up Thursday evening.

Little change in strength is forecast before Oscar dissipates Thursday evening or Friday.

The storm poses no threat to land at this time.
