Pompano Beach Man Accused Of Robbing Wheelchair Bound Man

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A Pompano Beach man who offered to help an elderly disabled man across the street is behind bars after he allegedly tried to rob him.

31-year old Randolph Soto has been charged with robbery and abuse of an elderly person.

James Tallay, 71, is confined to a wheelchair. After paying for a meal at a restaurant near the intersection of NW 27th Avenue and NW 4th Street, Tallay was waiting to cross the street when Soto came up to him and offered to help him.

Soto pushed Tallay across the street. When they got to other side, however, Soto reportedly stole an envelope from Tallay which contained approximately $4,000 in cash and ran off.

After Sota was arrested, Tallay picked him out of a photo line up, according to his arrest affidavit.

During a hearing on Wednesday, a judge set bond at $12,500.
