Seven Years Later Rookie To Play In Major League Game

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Seven years ago, Adam Greenberg had finally fulfilled his life-long dream and was playing in the Major Leagues. The first pitch he faced was a 92-miles-per-hour fastball that hit him in the head and his dream of being a big leaguer ended.

Greenberg was diagnosed with vertigo and some thought his career was over. But Greenberg spent the last seven years working to get back to the big leagues and thanks to a viral campaign, the Miami Marlins have decided to give Greenberg a shot.

Miami signed Greenberg to a one-day contract for October 2nd and will let him play that day against the New York Mets. Miami, ironically, was the team that was playing against when he was injured in 2005.

Greenberg will receive one-day's salary and will donate that to the Marlins' foundation, which will in turn donate the money to the Sports Legacy Institute. The Institute studies the effects of brain trauma in athletes and others.
