MIAMI (CBSMiami) – If it was up to Reggie Bush, he’d be in uniform and in the starting lineup against the Arizona Cardinals. But, that decision has yet to be made by Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin.
“I’d tell you right now, I’m playing on Sunday,” Bush told CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald. “But I’m sure that’s why I’m not the head coach. I’m going to do everything I can from a physical and mental standpoint to prepare myself as if I’m playing Sunday.”READ MORE: Man Held Without Bond In Killing Of Baby, Babysitter In Coral Springs
The Dolphins offense is a completely different monster with Bush in and out of the lineup. When Bush is on the field, the Dolphins offense has the capability of hitting a home run at every snap. Without Bush, the Dolphins offense struggles to move the football.
Bush has rushed for 302 yards on the season and is averaging 6 yards per carry, which in the NFL is running at an All-Pro level. But Bush didn’t make it through the end of last weekend’s New York Jets game after his knee was hit by a Jets’ player’s helmet.READ MORE: Report: South Florida Counties Have High COVID Levels, Despite CDC Numbers
The injury came after Jets head coach said his team was going to put some “hot sauce” on Bush and Jets linebacker Calvin Pace said the team “had to put Bush out.” Coach Rex Ryan said his comments were misinterpreted and that he never wants to see anybody leave the field due to an injury.”
The Jets lost their star player, cornerback Darrelle Revis, during the Dolphins game to a torn anterior cruciate ligament. When asked about that on Tuesday, Bush said “what goes around comes around.”
If Bush can’t go for the Dolphins against the Cardinals, the team will turn to backup Daniel Thomas. It will also open the door for rookie Lamar Miller to get some playing time, but Miller is reportedly struggling with the playbook and is not pass protecting well enough to earn a lot of time with the starters.MORE NEWS: COVID-19 Testing Site Finder
But, Miller could be the answer if the Cardinals commit to stopping the run due to his game breaking ability that is similar to Bush.
