Police ID Man Killed In Lauderhill Home Invasion
LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – One person was killed in a deadly home invasion in Lauderhill early Wednesday morning.
Just after 2 a.m. police received a call about the shooting. When officers arrived at the apartment complex on NW 56th Avenue they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. The man has been identified as 35-year old Robert Mitchell. Investigators said two armed individuals forced their way into Mitchell's apartment and shot him man several times. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he died.
"It was like boom, boom, boom, it was three gunshots, it sounded like someone banging on my door," said neighbor Trina Freeman.
"It's kinda scary cause it could happen to anybody," said another neighbor Lesley Reid.
One big question for investigators is why.
"It appears as though they might have been looking something in the residence, but we're still trying to determine that," said Lauderhill police spokeswoman Captain Constance Stanley.
Freeman said since it's happened she doesn't feel safe in her own home.
"I 'gotta' go, this is crazy, that's too close to home," said Freeman. "The bullets could have ripped through my windows, my baby was right there."
Two other adults and two children under the age of ten were also in the apartment at the time of the shooting but were not harmed.
