Adopt-A-Tree Event Offers Two Free Trees To Residents

DORAL (CBSMiami) — Miami-Dade County residents wanting to spruce up their yards were able to do it for free during Doral's Adopt-A-Tree event.

The event offered two free trees to each resident, with 2,700 trees available. Experts were on-hand to show residents how to properly plant and care for their new trees.

Saturday's tree giveaway event marked the first of two put on by the county's Regulatory and Economic Resources Department.

Authorities also provided compact fluorescent light bulbs and high efficiency showerheads to the residents who bring their old ones.

The event also featured an Electronic Recycling Center, which collected old electronics for appropriate recycling. Authorities say some old electronics can create environmental hazards if they are disposed of improperly.

The second tree giveaway event will take place on Oct. 21.

The Associated Press contributed material for this report.
