Tannehill Closing The Gap With Luck

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Last fall as the Miami Dolphins were stumbling to a winless start to the season, the popular cry was "Suck for (Andrew) Luck." After two preseason games, Luck is showing why he was the number one pick, but the Dolphins' pick is not far behind him.

In preseason action, Luck has gone 26-41 for 363 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for a passer rating of 87.8, according to ESPN. Tannehill has gone 25-44 for 267 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions and a passer rating of 82.3, ESPN found.

The dichotomy between the two quarterbacks coming out of college was constantly talked about. Luck has been described by some as the most NFL-ready quarterback to come out of college, maybe in history.

On the flip-side, draftniks said Tannehill was the least-ready NFL quarterback and would need at least one season to get his feet under him before taking the reins of the team.

Monday, Tannehill was handed the starting job after his strong preseason showing and it will set up a three-way battle of top 10 picks between himself, Luck, and Robert Griffin,III to see which rookie quarterback will perform the best in 2012.

But, don't send Tannehill or Luck to Canton just yet. It is the preseason and both are likely to struggle to mightily once defenses begin showing complex blitz packages to both quarterbacks.
