Tropical Storm Isaac Moving Toward Lesser Antilles

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Isaac held steady Tuesday night as it approaches the Lesser Antilles.

At 11:00 p.m., the center of the depression was located about 390 miles east of Guadeloupe. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph with some higher gusts. It was moving to the west at 18 mph.

A Hurricane Watch has been issued for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra and the U.S. Virgin Islands

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for: the British Virgin Islands,  Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe and the surrounding islands, St. Martin, St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua, Montserrat, Anguilla, Barbuda, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said the system should move through the central Lesser Antilles Wednesday afternoon and evening and emerge over the eastern Caribbean Sea by Thursday.

Tropical storm conditions are expected to reach the warning area by Wednesday afternoon. The storm could drop as much as eight inches of rain over the Northern Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands.
