Hurricane Gordon Eyes Azores, Now Category Two

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Hurricane Gordon is now a Category Two hurricane, and is speeding up as it moves toward the Azores.

At 5 p.m. Saturday,  Hurricane Gordon was located about 590 miles west-southwest of the Azores.

Maximum sustained winds are 105 miles per hour, with higher gusts.

The storm is moving toward the east at 21 miles per hour. A turn toward the east-northeast is expected by Sunday.

National Hurricane Center forecasters said that, while Gordon will likely weaken on Sunday, it could still be near hurricane strength when it approaches the eastern Azores Sunday night and Monday.

Hurricane Warning is in effect for the central and eastern Azores. This means hurricane conditions can be expected within 36 hours.
