Adopt At Broward Animal Shelter, Win A Camera

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — The race is on: which shelter can give the most pets "forever homes"?

If you adopt a pet from the Broward County animal shelter this weekend, you can win a digital camera — and help the shelter win $100,000.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Centers is competing in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The challenge is a three-month competition in which 50 animal shelters nationwide will try to increase adoptions to win a piece of more than $500,000 in grants, including a $100,000 grand prize.

The shelters will be ranked according to how many adoptions they make this August, September and October compared to the same period in 2011.

On Saturday, a burger-and-fries food truck will provide entertainment and food from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the county animal shelter at 1870 SW 39th St. in Fort Lauderdale.

On Sunday, HOT 105 Radio will broadcast music from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by more fun activities until 4 p.m.

Anyone who adopts a pet will get the chance to win a digital camera, and will receive savings coupons from Pet Supermarket for supplies and food.
