Police: Man On Fake Pot Stabbed Woman With Meat Cleaver

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – You can be on cloud nine ("feeling good"), or on Cloud 9 ("high on a brand of fake pot"). Police say the latter may have led a man to stab a sleeping woman five times with a meat cleaver.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports police arrested Levan Allman, 24, who told them he was high on Cloud 9 before the attack.

On Saturday night, Allman called 911 to say he smoked synthetic marijuana then attacked a sleeping friend with a butcher knife.

Allman and his friend smoked Cloud 9 in the back yard of his home in the 5900 block of Northwest 16th Court, the police report says. She started to fall asleep in a chair so he went in the house to watch TV. At some point, Allman grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen, went outside and stabbed her four or five times, leaving slash marks on her head, arms and hands.

His friend woke up and asked, "Why are you doing this?"

That's when Allman went inside the house and called 911.

The friend, who was not identified in the report, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Allman faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $10,000.

Allman told police he bought the designer drug at a store in Lauderhill, Sgt. Rodney Hailey said. Allman did not say when or where he bought Cloud 9.

Lauderhill approved a ban on "bath salts" and synthetic pot on June 25.

"If he bought it before the law went into effect, we can't do much about it," Lauderhill Mayor Richard Kaplan said Wednesday.

Lauderhill City Manager Chuck Faranda said any stores in Lauderhill still selling synthetic drugs will be cited.

"We are not going to give any warnings," he said. "If we find anybody selling it we will cite them. We are glad we're ahead of the curve on this. It's nasty stuff."

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel contributed to this report.
