UPS Truck Ends Trip In Biscayne Bay

MIAMI SHORES (CBSMiami) - UPS' slogan of "What Can Brown Do For You" took on a whole new meaning for one of their drivers Wednesday morning.

A UPS truck went off the road near the corner of NE 85th Street and North Bayshore Drive in Miami Shores just after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, the driver said the truck's brakes went out around a block west of where the truck went off the shore.

The driver then lost control of the vehicle, hit a tree and then burst through the railing before ending up in Biscayne Bay.

The truck wound up sitting upright in the bay with much of the roof of the truck damaged.

The driver was able to escape the vehicle unharmed.

"When we got here, he was still seated in the truck," said Miami Shores Police Chief Kevin Lystad. "He came out of the truck and walked from where the truck is now (in the bay), to the railing."

CBS4's Gary Nelson found a neighbor with quite the ironic experience this morning.

The neighbor told Nelson he heard the ruckus outside and came out to see the UPS truck in the water.

The same neighbor was expecting a shipment from UPS Wednesday morning...of seafood.

UPS said it was happy the driver was okay and that it was working with police.

UPS said if you were expecting a package around that area, go to their website and search for your package's information.
