Three People Shot Dead In SW Miami-Dade Home

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Miami-Dade Police surrounded a Southwest Miami-Dade home Tuesday night after a gunman reportedly shot three people dead.

Detective Roy Rutland said officers responded to the home on the 1800 Southwest 70th Avenue around 9:30 p.m and told CBS4's Carey Codd it was an "active shooting scenario," meaning the gunman was in the act of shooting the victims as police approached the home.

Det. Rutland says two men and one woman were killed. Five people, two adults and three children, were able to safely escape the home. It is unclear if the gunman was able to escape or was among the dead.

Martha Valverde, who lives behind the home, heard the gunshots and fled.

"I just heard the shots and when I came out she was laying like this and I didn't know if she was dead or whatever and I just ran," said Valverde. "I ran and I got into my car. I left."

Police say they have one person in custody that they are questioning, but it is unknown what role that person played in the incident.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
