SOUTH MIAMI (CBSMiami) – South Miami Middle Community School was temporarily placed on a precautionary lockdown on Wednesday when SWAT team members surrounded a ‘grow house’ with a man barricaded inside.
The school, at 6750 Southwest 60th Street, was supposed to recess for the day at 1:35 p.m. Instead, the students were held until around 3 p.m. when police determined the situation at a home virtually across the street was safe.READ MORE: Stimulus Check Update: When Might Your $1,400 Economic Relief Payment Arrive?
When police moved in on the home in the 6600 block of SW 61st Street to check out reports that marijuana was being grown inside, a man who was in the residence barricaded himself inside.READ MORE: Florida City FEMA-Run Site Clearing Up Vaccination Frustration Issues

Around 2:40 p.m., a man who looked to be in his 40s or 50s walked out of the front of the home, his arms raised in the air to surrender. He was handcuffed and taken into custody.
