Two Injured In Police Involved Shooting Outside Hialeah Strip Club

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – An early morning fight outside a Hialeah nightclub ended with two people rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Around 4 a.m. Hialeah police officers were sent to the Spotlight Nightclub on East 25th Street to check on reports of a fight.

"When Hialeah police arrived, one of our officers was forced to fire when they were confronted by the subject," said police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez.

According to what police have been able to determine, the fight started as a scuffle between three people inside the club.  It moved outside and shots were fire. Police said at this point it's unclear if one or both of the injured people were hit by bullets from the officer's gun.  The men were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where they were listed as stable.

One person was taken into custody for questioning.

Employees of nearby businesses were frustrated when they arrived for work and couldn't get into their buildings.

"It's a little bit frustrating, you know, just to see what' going on, especially when we have a building for patient care," said Ruth Hernandez.

Hernandez is a supervisor at the University of Florida's Dental School clinic which is located right next door to the club.  She said these sort of problems are becoming an all too common occurrence. Hernandez said police were called to club for another disturbance two weeks ago.

"We didn't know what was going on actually. We had patient care that day and actually something was going on inside the building," said Hernandez.

Police have not released the names of the injured men or said they were fighting over.
