Elderly Woman & Child Hit By Car In Dania Beach

DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – An elderly woman and a two year old boy were hit by a car on Dania Beach Boulevard and U.S. 1 Friday afternoon leaving both in critical condition.

Investigators said that a Kia hit the two pedestrians, but are not sure where the elderly woman and the child were coming from or where they were going.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was cooperative with investigators.

Police are not clear at this point as to what led to the accident.

"The two pedestrians were in the roadway but we don't know exactly where they were, whether they were in or near a crosswalk," said Mike Jachles, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesperson. "And that's something that traffic homicide investigators will determine as part of their investigation."

CBS4's Carey Codd saw various objects on the road, including what appeared to be child's clothes in the roadway and a dented car that suggested a violent crash.

The BSO said the accident is a reminder to always be aware when you're walking or driving.

"People are out. Drivers are out. People are out sightseeing," said Jachles. "It's important that you stay alert. If you're pedestrian, make sure you use crosswalks, cross where you should."
