Sports Agenda for Friday the 13th

Big Story:
Heading out to Camp Crystal Lake tonight, hope it will be fun!
But seriously, the Heat are in trouble, the Marlins should be using a line from an Adam Sandler movie, the Dolphins shouldn't draft Ryan Tannehill, and the Panthers begin their Stanley Cup Playoff run tonight!!!

Lyrics of the Day:
And now it's all right. It's OK. And you may look the other way. We can try to understand…The New York Times' don't make a man. (Not sure about the ending there.) – The Bee Gees in Stayin Alive!!!

Heat: (vs. Charlotte, 7:30 p.m.)
Guh, that was just an ugly, ugly game against the Bulls last night.
Both teams looked awful and not fitting of being the top two seeds in the Eastern Conference.
I can tell you this, the Heat are in definite trouble.
No lineup is working and the bench played about as poorly as you can imagine.
Some will say, hey it's the end of the regular season, no one should care.
I say, bull.
The Heat have been flat out awful on the road since the All-Star break and no team can win a championship if they can't win on the road.
Not only that, but unless the Heat are playing Philadelphia all three rounds, they may not make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, much less the NBA finals.
Seriously check this out.
Mike Miller, Shane Battier, Joel Anthony, Mario Chalmers and Udonis Haslem combined for 13 points.
Are you freaking kidding me?
Looking at a few things here….Battier has been a complete bust for this team in the regular season.
His defense is off, he looks slow, and he can't hit water if he fell out of a freaking boat.
Miller is toast too because if you look at him funny he goes down with an injury.
I hate to say it, but right now, this team is just bad.
Well, except for LeBron, who continues to have an MVP season this year.
Too bad the rest of the team isn't raising its game to help LeBron win the MVP.
I don't have a solution for them, but they better get their butts in gear or they may not make it past the second round of the playoffs.

Miami Marlins (vs. Houston Astros, 7:05 p.m.)
I referenced the Adam Sandler movie earlier, it's actually from the Waterboy.
Sandler's character had just been benched and Rob Schneider, playing a Louisiana guy, said what has summed up the Marlins first two weeks.
"Oh no!!!! WE SUCK AGAIN!!!!"
Yknow, if I'm Mark Buehrle, I'm seriously questioning my decision to come here.
He pitched a heckuva game last night and the Marlins hitters were as low as NBC's primetime lineup's ratings.
Ouch.
The Marlins have taken their customary place in last place in the NL East again.
I'm really running out of things to say about the bad sports in South Florida….but at least we have the Panthers?

Ryan Tannehill:
I've gone back and forth on this guy the Dolphins are interested in, but I've finally made my decision.
For the love of God, don't draft him.
He's got Jamarcus Russell written all over him.
When I looked back at his games and really thought about it, I remembered something key to any evaluation of a quarterback.
He always sucked in the big game.
When it was crunch time he crumbled like the Miami negotiating a stadium deal.
I'll use one game as an example.
Last year, Texas A&M was supposed to be a Top 10 team.
They were playing Missouri one Saturday and completely dominated the Tigers in the first half.
Then Missouri started playing tougher defense and Tannehill crumbled.
He couldn't move the ball consistently and couldn't seal the game away which allowed Mizzou to storm back and win in overtime.
Now that's against a good, but not great defense.
Scouts have been divided over Tannehill, but let's think about it this way.
Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman had Tannehill for four years in his stable.
For two of those years, he started him at receiver because he wasn't good enough at quarterback to beat out a decent, but not great, starting quarterback.
If Sherman had four years to develop him and Tannehill still couldn't beat a great team anytime he played them, why will it be different in the NFL?
It won't.
Scouts love Tannehill's strong arm and his athleticism.
Let me take you back to 2007….
Jamarcus Rusell had a standout season at LSU and began to move up draft boards.
Scouts loved him because he had a huge arm and he was mobile enough to move around the pocket.
Scouts also loved him because he kneeled down and threw the ball more than 50 yards in the air.
How exactly did that turn out?
Look, I'm not saying Tannehill is going to turn out like Jamarcus. Mainly because Tannehill has a good head on his shoulders.
But he's not a franchise quarterback in my opinion.
I would much rather the Fins take a quality pass rusher, wide receiver, or offensive lineman.
I'd say look hard at Melvin Ingram, Malcolm Floyd, and Riley Reiff.
I'd also say think about trading down about 5 spots in the first round to get more picks and better value.

Panthers: (vs. New Jersey Devils, 7 p.m., NHL Network/Fox Sports Florida)
It's finally here hockey fans…the Panthers begin their quest for a Stanley Cup tonight.
First order of business, beat Martin Brodeur.
Man, talk about drawing a tough out.
I think the Panthers can do it, but it's up to Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen bringing their a-game between the pipes.
Brodeur will be tough, but both teams are fairly closely matched.
That said, unfortunately I don't think the Panthers make it out of the first round.
I'd love to be wrong, but…
I see the Devils winning in 6 games.
Hopefully, I will be wrong, because I LOVE PLAYOFF HOCKEY!
If you want to donate a ticket, I know the perfect person for it…me!
