Madden Curse May Hit Panthers, 49ers, Packers Or Lions

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Dolphins fans can breathe a sigh of relief because no Dolphins player made it into group of players being considered for the cover of the Madden 2013 video game.

On the flip side, fans of the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Lions may be sweating extra hard this season.

The player on the cover of the game has said to be cursed in the upcoming season. The Madden Curse as its known has been around since 1999 and has impacted some of the NFL's greatest players.

For example, Daunte Culpepper was on the cover in 2000 and he went on to throw 23 interceptions and break the record for most fumbles in a single season. The cover had Michael Vick on it in 2004 and the former Falcon broke his fibular in a pre-season game.

Donovan McNabb was on the cover in 2006 and tore his ACL and meniscus in the following season. Vince Young was the 2008 cover athlete and suffered multiple injuries that season. Troy Polamulu of the Steelers tore his posterior cruciate ligament in the third game of the 2009 season.

This year the four finalists are: Cam Newton, Patrick Willis, Aaron Rodgers, and Calvin Johnson.
