Easter Bunny Takes Egg Hunt Under Water

KEY LARGO (CBSMiami) – The Easter Bunny isn't known for his ability to swim, but he has been spotted diving off the Florida Keys hiding brightly-colored Easter eggs in the coral.

In what has become a Florida Keys tradition, Atlantis Dive Shop owner Spencer Slate donned his larger-than-life bunny suit and dove to pre-position some of the eggs in the sand along the edge of the reef in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary off Key Largo on Monday.

He uses real hard-boiled eggs dyed with non-toxic colors to avoid damage to the delicate reef environment.

Local divers will participate in Sunday's underwater hide-and-seek game and are awarded prizes including one for the finder of a "golden egg."

The popular hunt serves as a fundraiser for Kids In Special Situations, a local organization that provides holiday gifts for needy children.
