MIAMI (CBS4) – Are your kids staying up way too late doing their homework? And are you stuck working with them even after you’ve worked all day?

Now there’s more evidence that it’s a waste of time for everyone, except for older kids.

The Australian Institute of Family Studies research confirms other recent studies that have found homework in elementary school offers no real benefit and limited results in junior high.

Only high school juniors and seniors clearly benefited from doing work at home.

The study found a little homework is OK at all ages, to help kids become self-directed learners.

But researchers say studies now prove that kids in countries that are homework-intensive have lower achievement results.

The U.S. is homework-intensive.

It’s all leading to a backlash, especially among two-career parents who have little time to help and who see their kids carrying heavier workloads than they ever had.

And there are concerns stress from homework is hurting family relationships.

Homework is driving me crazy… I’m doing more homework with my kids now than I ever did when I was school.
