As Trayvon Furor Grows, New Black Panthers Offer Reward For Zimmerman

SANFORD (CBSMiami) - In what may be one of the more disturbing facets in the effort to bring charges against the man who killed Trayvon Martin and claimed it was in self defense, the New Black Panthers have offered a $10 thousand "reward" for the "capture" of neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman.

Since Zimmerman has not been charged with anything, and is technically not on the run, some claim that what the Panthers are offering is simply a bounty. New Black Panther leader Mikhail Muhammad announced the reward during a protest in Sanford Saturday. When asked whether he was inciting violence, Muhammad offered a defiant answer.  "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, " he said.

The group also called for the mobilization of thousands of black men to search for Zimmerman in the Maitland area, where he last worked.

"If the government won't do the job, we'll do it," Muhammad said.

Zimmerman's whereabouts are currently unknown.

The organization is also looking for money as it appears unwilling to allow the justice system, and numerous parallel investigations, to reach a conclusion. They've set a $1 million goal for next week.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has called the New Black Panther Party, a black-separatist group, "virulently racist" and "anti-Semitic."
