More Malnourished Horses Found In SW Dade

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Rescuers who found nearly a dozen starving horses in Southwest Miami-Dade over the weekend say they found more horses that need help.

The two horses are running wild and rescuers were not able to catch them Tuesday, but plan to bring more people out to corral the horses.  They are in the same area where 11 malnourished horses and seven dead horses were found over the weekend.

The surviving horses are at an SPCA ranch and a veterinarian vaccinated them and checked them out.

Dr. Nathan Heidbrink says he has seen too many malnourished horses lately. He says many owners aren't able to care for them.

"If you can't afford to feed a horse, don't have a horse," he said.

An American Bulldog/Boxer mix was also found with the horses. It is believe that she was used as a bait dog for fighting.

Rescue organization Animal Recovery Mission is caring for the dog, but say she will be available for adoption as soon as she is well enough.
