Foodies & Baseball Unite For Diamond Dishes At The Ball Park

MIAMI (CBS4) - Food and baseball.  These two great American pastimes joined into one Saturday night for the South Beach Food and Wine Festival.

Hundreds came out to literally dine on the diamonds, walk the bases, eat and drink wines at the new Marlins Ball Park.

"I want to take this in because this is a special moment for me," said Scott Conant. "This is great for the people who are coming here as well."

Conant is a huge baseball fan and believes if he didn't become a cook he would have been a baseball player.

"We're on second base," he exclaimed! "It's awesome I've never been on the field of a stadium before so standing here is really like I had this huge smile when I walked onto the field."

It was an amazing experience even for those who are used to standing on the pitcher's mound.

"I've never walked around the bases and had different food at different bases yet. But tonight is a first," said Josh Johnson, Marlins pitcher.

Johnson is one of several players featured in the book Diamond Dishes. His recipe is for strawberry shortcake, something he likes to eat after a victory.

"I love strawberries," he said. "But strawberry shortcake, my wife makes for me all the time."

Many of the players dishes were also served at the event. The admission was $250 per person and several hundred people were in attendance.
