Plantation Man Aims For Pit Bulls, Shoots Mom

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) - There's a fair amount of difference between an 84-year old woman and a pack of pit bulls, but police say when the dogs started fighting and turned on the woman, her son used a gun to get control of the situation and shot his mom instead of the dogs.

Sonia Piccione was not seriously injured by the shot fired by her son, William Hart.

Plantation police Detective Robert Rettig said the two were in Piccione's home Tuesday night when her pack of about 10 dogs, most of them pit bulls, started to fight each other.

Piccione tried to get the dogs to calm down, but Detective Rettig said the dogs turned their aggression on her, alarming her son.

Police said Hart started firing at the dogs to break them up, but instead, hit his mom.

Hart said the whole thing was ann accident, and while police are investigating, no charged had been filed.

Piccione's injuries were not considered life threatening. There was no information available on any injuries to the dogs or whether any of them will be removed from the home.
