Car Crash Leads To Murder Investigation In Ft. Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is asking for the public's help in connection with a homicide case.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police, Tobias Kelly, 35, of Sunrise, crashed his car into a fence in the 1800 block of NE 15th Avenue sometime before 6:00 a.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived, they realized it wasn't just a simple car crash. Kelly, according to police, had suffered serious injuries that were not consistent with just a car crash.

Kelly was rushed to Broward General Medical Center where he later died.

Detectives believe that Kelly was possibly attacked at another location and crashed his vehicle into the fence as a result of his injuries. The types of injuries, as well as the cause of death, are still under investigation.

This is still a very active investigation and detectives are pursuing all leads.

Investigators are urging anyone with information regarding this homicide, or the whereabouts of Kelly leading up to the murder, to contact Detective William DeJesus at 954-828-5366 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
