Fire Rips Through SW Dade Michaels Store

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - A Michaels craft store in Kendall is closed for business after a fire ripped through the building Wednesday afternoon.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the store on Kendall Drive and Southwest 122 Avenue and found smoke pouring out of the building.

Several people were treated on the scene, and one woman was taken to the hospital.

Fire investigators say the store suffered heavy smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but officials believe it was intentionally set.

Michaels corporate released this statement:

"First, we would like to thank the Miami-Dade fire department for its quick response to the fire at the West Kendall Center Michaels. We believe everyone was able to get out of the building safely and we're working to learn if anyone was injured. The store will remain closed until we are sure the building is structurally sound and we are able to make any necessary repairs. In the meantime, we are happy to serve our area customers at our other two Miami locations."
