Gay Couple Overcomes Adversity To Hold S. Fla. Wedding

CORAL GABLES (CBS4) - A South Florida couple is preparing to tie the knot Saturday, but they're already celebrating. Josh Matos and David Lau say just getting to this point is a victory.

The couple met four years ago and decided to get married, but finding a place for a gay wedding wasn't easy.

"We really got a really bad cold shoulder from a couple different places," said Matos,"They kept referring to it as just a civil union but we wanted to be called a wedding. What's so wrong with calling it a wedding? It's our wedding and nobody wanted to respect that."

Until they asked the owner of the Renaissance in Coral Gables.   Rosemarie Carreras explained, "They were very excited about it and they asked if I would mind doing it for them,"

She said coordinating David and Josh's wedding was no different than any other.

"It's the same thing, the same emotion, the same craziness.  Everyone's working to get to the one final thing which is the beautiful event."

The couple didn't consider going to a state where gay marriage is legal.

They wanted to get married in South Florida with their family and friends.

"Not any state any law is going to tell me I can't do this," said Lau.

The wedding is already getting plenty of attention.  MTV'S Tr3s is featuring the couple, so each moment of wedding preparation is caught on camera.  The anticipation is enough to make everyone emotional.

"This has been an adventure and I wouldn't change any of it for anything in the world," said Matos.
