Sheriff's Office ID's Dania Beach Woman Killed In Fire

DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – The name of an elderly woman who died as the result of a fire at her Dania Beach condo over the weekend has been released by the Broward Sheriff's Office.

According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, they received a call Sunday around 3:20 a.m. about a fire in a fifth floor unit of the Meadowbrook Lakes condominiums located in the 300 block of SE 3rd Street.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the one unit as they rescued its 77-year-old Bernice Falso who was rushed to Broward General Medical Center. She was then airlifted to the Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition with burns over 60 percent of her body. She died shortly after 9 a.m.

There were no other injuries reported, and investigators said the condo had no fire detectors.

The BSO Fire Marshal Bureau and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
