Dania Beach Fire Claims Elderly Woman's Life

DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – Arson is not suspected in an early morning fire which killed a Dania Beach woman.

According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, they received a call around 3:20 a.m. about a fire in a fifth floor unit of the Meadowbrook Lakes condominiums located in the 300 block of SE 3rd Street.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the one unit as they rescued its 77-year-old resident who was rushed to Broward General Medical Center. She was then airlifted to the Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition with burns over 60 percent of her body. She died shortly after 9 a.m.

There were no other injuries reported, and investigators said the condo had no fire detectors.

The woman's name has not been released pending the notification of her relatives.

The BSO Fire Marshal Bureau and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
