Florida Senate Passes 1st Bills Of 2012 Session

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) – The Senate has passed two claims bills, the first bills to pass in the 2012 legislative session.

The Senate voted 37-2 to approve a $10.75 million settlement with Eric Brody, who was injured in a car accident with a Broward Sheriff's deputy.

It also voted 39-1 to award $1.35 million to William Dillon, who spent 27 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of a murder in Brevard County.

The bills were championed by Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island who also pushed claims bills for the men in 2011, but the measures failed to pass the House during the final chaotic hours of the legislative session.
