Woman Fatally Shot In Driveway Of Miami Home

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Police are looking for whoever opened fire on a car sitting in the driveway of a Miami home Thursday night, fatally striking a woman.

Miami Police Sgt. Freddie Cruz confirmed to CBS4 News that the victim was sitting in a red Chevrolet SUV with three other people at the home on the 59-hundred block of N.E. 5th Avenue when a man approached them and began shooting.

"This group of individuals were arriving at this home. When they arrived they were met by a black male, tall with brown hat, fired seven maybe eight shots into the vehicle, fatally hitting one of the passengers in the vehicle," said Sgt. Cruz. "She was struck twice."

The suspect then fled the scene, possibly in a dark colored vehicle.

Miami Fire Rescue responded to the scene, but the woman died from her injuries. The woman, believed to be in her 20's, has not been identified.

Officers arrived on scene and established a perimeter, but were unable to locate the shooter.

"It appears someone was possibly targeting someone in the vehicle," said Sgt. Cruz.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami Police Homicide Unit at (305) 603-6350 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
