Something Extra: For The Birds
MIAMI (CBS4) - Few movies are guaranteed to give you as many nightmares as Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds." The American Film Institute ranked it seventh among its most thrilling movies ever.
Now reality is imitating fiction at a shopping mall in Fort Worth. Grackles have invaded by the thousands, making shoppers duck and dodge. The grackles have set up residence on power lines and cars. Shopkeepers are none too happy. The birds, especially their droppings, are keeping restaurant-goers and shoppers away.
While nobody's had to escape into a phone booth (these days there may not be phone booths to escape to) and no one's been injured, the mess is massive.
Yuck.
What's worse: the birds are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act so there's not much they can do to get the grackles out of there, other than wait until they migrate in the spring.
