Miramar Cops Donate Toys To Joe DiMaggio Kids

MIRAMAR (CBS4)- Miramar police took some time this Christmas Eve to spread a little holiday cheer to sick children at Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital.

Officers from the Miramar Police Department dropped off toys and presents to children in the intensive care unit at Joe DiMaggio in Hollywood. Officers also participated in an arts and crafts project with the children.

Police said they were inspired to give gifts because of a fellow officer who lost his 20-month-old daughter to a battle with cancer in 2009.

The officers' said their goal was to deliver smiles and joy to the kids that have to spend Christmas away from home.

The Miramar Police Department partnered with Wal-Mart to purchase the donated toys.

Saturday marked the third year Miramar police officers have participated in the event.
